Wichita police investigating tips on possible abduction; reward up to $2,000

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Wichita Police Department held a media briefing Tuesday morning on what it is calling a “possible abduction investigation.”

On Sunday morning, a Ring video camera caught a woman who was taken by force about 2 a.m. near 14th Street and North Volutsia.

Investigators shared the video with the

Sponsored
public with reduced background noise in hopes that someone would recognize the voice of the woman, who can be heard screaming:

Investigators said they checked recent missing person reports, looked at license plate cameras and canvassed the area for more video, but those efforts haven’t turned up any leads.

Detectives have received numerous Crime Stoppers tips, nine of which have already been investigated and did not pan out. Fifteen are still being investigated.

The WPD said the Crime Stoppers reward has been increased to $2,000 for information leading to the identification of the man or woman in the video.

“We have coordinated with regional and federal law enforcement as well as private industry for processing the video for additional information,” Capt. Todd Ojile said.

He said the video shared with the public was the full video provided to WPD.

Police ask that if you recognize either the man or the woman, you contact 911. They want to ensure the woman’s safety. Information can also be provided to WPD detectives at 316-268-4407 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
