GREEN RIVER, Utah (ABC4) — A semi-truck driver was arrested in Green River after allegedly threatening another driver with a knife for cutting him off on the highway.
Habib Khairy, 37, was arrested for aggravated assault. He has not been formally charged.
On Oct. 13, 2025, the Emery County Sheriff’s Office was contacted about a knife attack at the Maverik in Green River, according to the arrest statement. A sheriff’s deputy responded to the gas station and located the victim.
The victim told the sheriff’s deputy that he was putting fuel in his semi-truck when another truck driver suddenly approached him and started yelling at him. The other driver — later identified as Khairy — was “getting closer,” and the exchange between the two escalated into a verbal altercation, the victim reported.
During the verbal altercation, Khairy allegedly “pushed the victim near his throat,” and then retrieved a small pocket knife from his pocket. The victim told law enforcement that he grabbed the fuel hose to try and stop Khairy.
When waving the hose at him did not work, the victim grabbed a nearby window squeegee and began swinging it at Khairy to get him to stop. Khairy allegedly continued to “go after” the victim with the knife.
The sheriff’s deputy reviewed surveillance footage from the Maverik and found that it matched the events described by the victim.
During an interview with Khairy, he alleged that the altercation began because the victim had cut him off on the highway. When he arrived at the Maverik and saw the victim’s semi-truck, he was “still upset about what had happened on the highway.”
Khairy told the sheriff’s deputy that he did “not have a knife” and consented to a search of his truck. Inside the cab, the sheriff’s deputy located a small pocket knife in a compartment above the passenger seat.
The victim confirmed that he believed it was the same knife that Khairy wielded, and the sheriff’s deputy compared it to the security camera footage to verify that it matched.
Khairy was arrested and booked into the Emery County Jail, where he is being held without bail. The arrest statement says he has no ties to Utah and is operating on a Texas commercial driver’s license.
