A 36-year-old man was sentenced to over 10 years (128 months) in prison in connection with a 2023 homicide in Minneapolis on Tuesday.
Devon Louis Williams pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder last month. An additional count of second-degree murder was dismissed at sentencing. Williams was given credit for 319 days already served.
Minneapolis police responded to the shooting in an alley on the 3500 block of Penn Avenue North on Oct. 21, 2023. There, they found 49-year-old Omar Lamont Brown with a gunshot wound to his torso. He was brought to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A witness said that on the morning of the shooting, he and Williams were at an apartment where they would sell drugs. The woman that Williams was with wanted to leave, and he asked Brown to drive her home, according to court documents.
Williams then realized his gun was missing and, believing the woman had taken it, asked Brown to bring it back.
When Brown returned with the gun, the witness said they were arguing. He went to see what was going on and saw Williams shoot Brown, court documents state.
Other witnesses said that Williams owed Brown money.
