BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — October 12, 2025 — A 55-year-old man was injured Sunday night after accidentally shooting himself in the leg when a revolver discharged inside an apartment on Bloomington’s west side, according to the Bloomington Police Department.
Police said officers were called to the 3300 block of West Spruce Drive around 9:30 p.m. after receiving a report of an accidental shooting. The man told officers he had picked up a belt that held a .22-caliber revolver in a holster when the firearm fell to the ground and discharged.
Investigators said the revolver’s hammer had been cocked prior to the fall, causing it to fire when it hit the floor.
The man was taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the back of one of his legs. Police said there was no indication of criminal intent in the incident.
