St. Cloud approves ordinance to make city Hollywood certified

Lights, camera, action!

St. Cloud hopes to bring major movie productions back to the city.

Last week, St. Cloud approved an ordinance that makes the city “Hollywood certified” under Explore Minnesota’s Film Ready Community Program.

The certification under the state’s program makes it easier for production companies to get permits for filming.

“We’re definitely still living in the glory days of the films that have happened here, so to think about the future is just really exciting about what could be,” Rachel Thompson with Visit Greater St. Cloud said. “It’s less about the paperwork and more about the production, so that’s what’s really exciting.”

A part of the film The Mighty Ducks was filmed in St. Cloud in 1992.

About a dozen cities across the state are film-ready.

Last year, one movie in Duluth brought in more than $2 million over just two weeks of filming.
