Fair officials emphasize security and family confidence at Arkansas State Fair

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Arkansas State Fair is welcoming record crowds, and organizers say safety is what makes that possible.

More than 49,000 visitors turned out on opening day, the second-largest crowd in fair history, with not a single incident reported.

“We have something for everyone here at the fair,” said Ashton Pruitt, spokesperson for the Arkansas State Fair. “If you’re a foodie, love rides, or want to see the livestock shows, we’ve got it going on — but safety is our number one priority.”

Over 100 officers from the Arkansas State Police, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, and Little Rock Police Department patrol the fairgrounds daily, both in uniform and undercover. Cameras watch every corner, and MEMS EMTs are stationed throughout the property to respond to any emergency within seconds.

“If there’s ever a problem — from a police incident to a medical emergency — help is only moments away,” Pruitt said.

The fair also enforces a clear bag policy, prohibits weapons of any kind, and requires anyone under 18 to be accompanied by an adult after 6 p.m.

“This is all about creating a family-friendly, secure environment,” Pruitt added. “We want every guest to feel safe and enjoy the fun.”

For younger visitors, the Arkansas Beef Council provides safety wristbands in case children get separated from their parents.

“The Beef Council is happy to get to sponsor these. We have got these handy little bands that you can put their parents’ name on them, contact information, allergies, all those different kinds of things,” said Caleb Plyler, chairman of the council. “It’s also a reminder when you go to the grocery store that the healthy thing to buy is beef for your family.”

The Arkansas State Fair closes nightly at 10 p.m. and runs through October 19.
