Embattled San Mateo County sheriff could be ousted Tuesday as board holds special meeting

(KRON) — The long-awaited day of reckoning for embattled San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus could at last be at hand. The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors will hold a special public meeting Tuesday to consider final action on whether to remove the sheriff.

Corpus’ tenure as sheriff has been marred by scandals, most notably accusations that she had a romantic relationship with her former chief of staff, Victor Aenlle. Additionally, Corpus, who was elected sheriff in 2022, has been accused by a civil grand jury of misconduct and retaliations against staff members, including firings, transfers, and even an arrest.

Amid calls to resign, Corpus has remained defiant. However, earlier this month, retired Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge James Emerson submitted a 42-page advisory report finding that four independent bases for removing Corpus from office were supported by evidence.

Any decision regarding removing Corpus from office at Tuesday’s meeting will require four-fifths vote from the board.
