Docs: Goshen man charged after attempting to rape teen at Brownsburg hotel

HENDRICKS COUNTY, Ind. — A Goshen man has been charged after he reportedly attempted to rape a teenager in November 2024 at a Brownsburg hotel.

According to court documents recently filed in Hendricks County, Leroy Edwards Jr. was charged with:

• One count of attempt to commit rape, a Level 3 felony
• One count of sexual battery, a Level 6 felony

On the evening of Nov. 21, 2024, officers from Hendricks County responded to an incomplete 911 call at a Brownsburg hotel. When officers arrived, a young woman, identified as a teenager, was located in a laundry room of the hotel.

The teen reportedly told officers at the time that she was hiding from the man she came to the hotel with. The documents said that the man, later identified as Edwards, was trying to rape her.

The teen reportedly called a family member and told them what Edwards had “attempted to do to her.” The teen reportedly said that Edwards “was aroused and had touched and kissed (the victim) on the neck.”

The documents said that the teen reportedly told a hotel employee that Edwards had condoms, which the teen hid. The teen left the hotel room when Edwards had left to “possibly buy more condoms.”

In an interview with Edwards at the scene, he reportedly told law enforcement that he could not believe the teen would make those allegations against him. Edwards told police that he was going to wait for the teen to go to sleep and then leave the room to see another person he was talking to.

During a search of Edwards’ vehicle, the documents said that a box of condoms was found underneath the front passenger seat “almost as if hidden on purpose.”

The next day, law enforcement conducted an interview with the teen, during which she reportedly told officers about the incident. The documents said that Edwards began rubbing the teen’s waist and grabbing her in the hotel room, while kissing her. The teen also reportedly told law enforcement that she hid the box of condoms when she was in the truck.

In an interview with Edwards, he reportedly admitted to taking the victim to the Brownsburg hotel, where he requested a single bed. The documents said he also reportedly admitted to kissing the teen.

Edwards’ initial hearing occurred Tuesday afternoon in Hendricks County, according to court documents.
