COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — The Columbus State University community is mourning the loss of Professor Erica Anderson, who was accidentally shot and killed inside her home earlier this week.

According to Columbus police, Anderson died after being shot by a woman at her home in the 1600 block of 17th Avenue.

The call came to the police just after midnight Monday morning.

She was listed as a lecturer in the College of the Arts and supervised the costume shop for the Department of Theatre and Dance.

Steven Graver, a professor in CSU’s Department of Theatre and Dance, said Anderson quickly became an integral part of the program, teaching around 100 students through her various courses.

“Students took to her like a duck to water,” Graver said. “They really enjoyed her style and the way she ran the shop — always looking for ways to improve things, which she did very quickly and for the better. We were just really lucky to have her. It was just a surprise hire that we got somebody so perfect for the job.”
