Chicago man accused of shooting victim during argument facing felony charge
According to Chicago police, 26-year-old Maynor Vasquez Gomez, a Hegewisch resident, has been charged with one felony count of first-degree murder.
Authorities said the charge stems from a deadly shooting that unfolded around 2:15 a.m. Sunday in the backyard of a residence in the 6400 block of South Fairfield Avenue in Chicago Lawn on the Southwest Side.
An initial investigation indicated that Gomez allegedly got into an argument with the victim, a 23-year-old man. The argument eventually became physical, police say, when the 26-year-old man pulled out a gun and allegedly shot the victim in the chest.
Officers who responded to the scene were able to quickly take Gomez into custody.
The victim, who has not yet been identified, was later taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
It remains unclear what led up to the argument.
Gomez is set to appear in court on Tuesday for a detention hearing.
