The event featured guest speakers such as Beau Bayh, Brad Ellsworth, Joe Donley, Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun, Mary Allen and more.
The main speaker was James Carville, most widely known for being Bill Clinton’s chief strategist in the 1992 presidential race.
Many things were on the agenda to discuss, but one of the most important was how voter turnout was at an all-time low in Indiana last year.
Carville spoke about how not much has changed in what individuals look for in politics. It’s always been and always will be about the people, he said.
“Politics is about people,” said Carville. “How you relate to people, how the government relates to people, the things that we do to change people’s lives and understand that there is no next thing.”
“Two young, bright candidates here tonight,” said Joseph Etling, the chair of the Vigo County Democratic Party. “Who I think represent the future of not only the Democratic Party, but the future of Indiana and I think we’ve got to have people rally behind them and I think that’s what James was saying tonight, that we got to get behind these kinds of people and put them out front.”
