ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – The All Kind Animal Initiative’s Pet Adoption and Resource Center (PARC) was filled with excited barks and wagging tails today as the staff and community celebrated one year of the PARC.

A year ago, a visit to the All Kind Animal Initiative Shelter was met with discomfort for visitors, according to the Executive Director, Kelly McCoy.

“It was just so overwhelming to be there, and there wasn’t really a space that they could interact with the animals,” McCoy recalled.

Everything changed on October 13, 2024, when they moved into the PARC located on South 11th Street. McCoy said now, it’s a more welcoming place that gives families a better experience before bringing home a new family member.

Not only does the one-year-old facility offer a larger space and more resources for furry friends, McCoy says it also helps their vision come to life. However, that doesn’t mean that their mission is over.

“This building is welcoming and it’s open and it really embodies how all kind feels about animal welfare and what the community of Abilene feels about animal welfare,” McCoy said. “There is still an overpopulation issue here in Abilene. There is still a stray population concern. We haven’t just hit this goal, and now our work is done. It is a work in progress, always.”

Since moving into the new building, there have been more than 3,000 neuterings, and the shelter has achieved a no-kill status for the first time in history.

The shelter is open for adoptions, fosters and volunteers. Click here to visit the All Kind Animal Initiative website to learn more.
