The announcement on Oct. 13 comes just days after the now-former Robertson County Sheriff Terry Gray resigned following his third DUI arrest
“Currently, our county is experiencing what I can only describe as trauma, and I believe that next year’s elected sheriff should be chosen wholly by the citizens of Robertson County, and as the result of an ‘even playing field,'” Valerie Grigson Miley, the county’s judge executive, said in a Facebook post.

Miley said Insko served as sheriff for 21 years.
Insko will serve as sheriff until the 2026 election, according to the judge executive. Insko reportedly has no plans to run for sheriff.
“While this has been a very difficult situation, I can assure you that I know, we have everything firmly under control, and can successfully continue the important work of the Sheriff’s Office, very soon,” Miley continued in the Facebook post. “I want to sincerely thank everyone in the community that has reached out with kind words, support, and prayers—please, keep them coming.”
