Just after 1 a.m. Friday, patrol officers with Salem Police Department “made an unexpected new friend,” the department said in an “Oink alert” Facebook post.
That night, officers were called to Hammond Elementary School, where a custodian reported finding a pig inside, SPD told KOIN 6 News on Monday.
Responding to the scene, patrol officers found “a sweet, domesticated pig trotting along like he owned the night,” SPS said in the social media post.
Authorities said an officer with the Salem Police Department is keeping the pig on his farm until they find the owner, after SPD was unable to find a shelter.
“We’ve been trying to locate this guy’s home and are reaching out to see if you’re missing your beloved porky buddy (no judgment—we love him too). If you’re missing this little guy or know someone who is, please call our non-emergency line. We’d love to reunite this curly-tailed cutie with his family,” SPD wrote. “Let’s bring this piggy home.”
