MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — A homicide investigation is underway after a woman was allegedly shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend outside of a Montgomery County home early Sunday, according to police.

The woman was pronounced dead on the scene in the 1700 block of Imperial Drive after officers responded to the residential area shortly before 8:30 a.m. for a shooting.

Police said an initial investigation determined that the 47-year-old woman was leaving a home when her ex-boyfriend approached her, shooting her multiple times.

A witness provided officers with the suspect’s description, as well as the description of the vehicle he was driving. Officers were then able to locate him driving on Horizon Place in Derwood.

A police pursuit ensued, during which the man’s vehicle rolled over and crashed. He was arrested and taken to the hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The homicide investigation is ongoing. The Montgomery County Department of Police noted that the suspect’s and the woman’s names will be released as more information becomes available.
