LELAND, Miss. (WJTV) – The mayor of Leland told WJTV 12 News that suspects have been arrested in connection to the mass shooting that killed six people in the town.

Investigators have not said how many suspects were arrested, and those suspects have not been identified. However, multiple agencies, including the FBI, are actively working the case.

“They are working diligently right now trying to get the suspects in custody. I can say they do have some suspects in custody. I’m not allowed to say any more information as far as that is concerned, but that’s the progress we’ve made,” said Leland Mayor John Lee.

According to authorities, a total of 16 people were shot after Leland High School’s homecoming game. The shooting occurred in the Main Street area of Leland on October 11, 2025.

According to the FBI, investigators believe the shooting occurred due to a disagreement among several individuals.

Washington County Coroner LaQuesha Watkins said four of the deceased victims were identified as Oreshama Johnson, 41; Calvin Plant, 19; Shelbyona Powell, 25; and Kaslyn Johnson, 18.

Watkins said her office received a call from the Hinds County Coroner’s Office that another victim, Amos Brantley, Jr., 18, died from his injuries. Shortly afterwards, the Shelby County Medical Examiner reported that JaMichael Jones, 34, died from his injuries.

Anyone with information, videos or photographs of the shooting can contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or tips.fbi.gov. You can also upload media to FBI — Seeking Information regarding the shooting at the Leland MS homecoming.
