How to make YourCentralValley.com your preferred news source on Google

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) — Google has updated its search results to customize them to each user’s search preferences. That way, you can prioritize news from outlets you trust. Here’s how you can make YourCentralValley.com your preferred news source on Google.

The search giant recently launched “

preferred sources,” a tool that lets you choose which outlets you want to see in the “Top stories” section.

You can do it two ways. First, click here, and a new tab will pop up to select your “preferred sources”. Search for YourCentralValley.com, check the box and that’s it!

Another way is by setting it up while you search for news or any story of the day. When you Google a topic, a ‘Top Story’ icon should pop up, similar to the one below. For relevant news queries, these sources show up more often in “Top stories” and “From your sources.”

Once you’ve built your list, articles from those outlets will start appearing more prominently when they publish content related to your search.

Will I see other news articles/stories on Google?

Yes. Setting preferred sources doesn’t block out everything else — you’ll still see articles from other sites, and you can update your list whenever you like. “Top stories” features articles related to the search and a link to more related articles on the News tab.

Why do your Google search results differ from others?

When you search for a topic that’s in the news, Google algorithms organize specific stories and articles based on certain factors. These results are not personalized, but you can refine your search terms to find additional information.

According to Google, when you personalize search results, the algorithms tailor the search for you based on your activity. Personalization doesn’t affect all search results.
