Fredericksburg ticket that shared $1.8 billion Powerball jackpot claimed by anonymous winner

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A winning lottery ticket that won half of $1.8 billion jackpot has been claimed by a lottery trust in Fredericksburg. A lottery trust helps keep the winner of lottery prizes worth $1 million or more anonymous.

The ticket, in the Sept. 6 drawing, was claimed by Seven Bridges Revocable Trust. It was one of two winning tickets, with the other sold in Missouri.

The Fredericksburg player selected the cash value option when buying the ticket, meaning their prize was $410,324,470.28 before taxes.

The lucky player usually selects random numbers when playing the lottery, but this time they chose numbers meaningful to them, a representative of the trust said, according to a press release from the Texas Lottery.

“However, after they purchased the ticket, they realized one of the numbers they had selected was different from the one they had intended to pick,” the release said.

“We are Texas true to the state and its values. We believe in family, in faith and in the blessings that come through both,” the anonymous winner said in a statement through their legal representation. “This is a moment of gratitude for us, a blessing we plan to enjoy and share with those who are special to us and who serve our community. We ask for privacy as we look forward to enjoying our lives together as a family. God bless Texas.”

The $410 million payout is the largest lottery prize ever in Texas, and is about $1 million more than the previous largest prize, claimed in Sugar Land in October 2024.

The store that sold the ticket, Big’s 103 on U.S. Highway 290 east of Fredericksburg, won $250,000 for selling the ticket. The Texas Department of Licensing Regulation presented the store with a check earlier this month.
