Dodge City Council talks S&S break-in, finances, events

CITY, Ala.
– The Dodge City Council at its Oct. 9, meeting heard updates from local law enforcement, discussed recent expenditures and approve several items of Town business.

Officials reported a recent break-in at S&S Foods. According to the report, three masked men arrived in a black Ford Fusion, broke a window with a spark gun and entered the store. They attempted to access the office safe and cash registers but left empty handed after causing minor damage.

In other business, council members reviewed the Town’s 2025-2026 operating budget and revisited the August financial report. The Town began September with a general account balance of $442,916.78 and ended the month with $373,493 after expenses that included the purchase of a new mower.

Council members also finalized the purchase of a new tractor for $88,850 and discussed plans to build a storage building for the equipment. The proposed 24×36-foot building, estimated to cost up to $50,000 with foundation work, was tabled until more bids and soil information could be obtained.

The council also approved the sale of a surplus bush hog and sprayer to local bidders and set plans for the Town’s annual Trunk or Treat event on Oct. 31, from 6-8 p.m. at Dodge City Town Hall.

The meeting concluded with plans to hold a Veterans Day flag dedication ceremony honoring former Mayor Anthony Todd on Nov. 11, at 10 a.m.

The next Dodge City Town Council meeting is scheduled for Nov. 3, at 6 p.m.
