During the demonstration, officers received reports that a man had been assaulted and injured near S Bancroft Street and Bond Avenue. The man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
Officers later arrested a suspect, a 32-year-old man, who was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on a charge of fourth-degree assault.
Meanwhile, police said the victim, a 33-year-old Beaverton man, was identified as a suspect in a separate assault. While in the hospital, he was criminally cited for fourth-degree assault, officials said.
Throughout the evening, dozens of protesters maintained a presence at the ICE facility, including many in costumes and an appearance from the Unipiper.
While it remained an active scene as night fell, the mood was not tense, but more “party-like.”
However, at around 10:15 p.m., federal agents deployed pepper spray on the crowd.
Additionally, OHSU said medical helicopters would not be landing at their facility, due to possible reports of lasers being shined at Customs and Border Patrol helicopters sent in to support ICE operations.
KOIN 6 News has not been able to confirm any reports of this happening as of Sunday morning.
Overall, Portland police say there have been 49 arrests in the South Waterfront area since the nightly protests began in early June.
