No SF hotels earn top honors in Michelin Guide’s first ranking of exceptional hospitality

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) —    None of San Francisco’s biggest luxury hotels received top honors from the Michelin Guide’s first-ever ranking of exceptional hospitality.

The global selection gave its top “three keys” rating to the Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur, the SingleThread Inn in Healdsburg, Auberge du Soleil in Rutherford, Meadowood Napa Valley in St. Helena, and Canyon Ranch Woodside, in Woodside.

Michelin said it evaluated the hotels on their personality, comfort, service, style and elegance.

The Michelin Guide, noted for its coveted restaurant reviews, said one key represented “a very special stay,” two keys showed “an exceptional stay” and three keys for a hotel signaled “an extraordinary stay.”

New York and California had the most three-key hotels in the U.S., Michelin said in a press release Wednesday. Other California hotels rated three keys were The Beverly Hills Hotel in Beverly Hills and the Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles.

One-key hotels included Four Seasons Resort Napa Valley in Calistoga, Villa Mara Carmel in Carmel/Monterey, Harbor House in Elk, Stanly Ranch in Napa, The Francis House in Napa/Sonoma Valleys, Rancho Caymus Inn in Rutherford, 1 Hotel San Francisco in San Francisco, Hotel Drisco in San Francisco and The Sea Ranch Lodge in Sea Ranch.

Worldwide, 143 hotels received three keys, 572 were awarded two keys and 1,742 earned one key, Michelin said. Its inspectors reviewed more than 7,000 hotels, ultimately rating 2,457.
