According to officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to a report of a person shot at around 5:13 p.m. Sunday in the 6100 block of Dickson Rd. This is located near N Arlington Ave.
When officers arrived, they located an adult man with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. In an update on Sunday evening, IMPD officials said the man was pronounced dead after being transported to an area hospital.
IMPD said that a person was detained at the scene. Officials on scene did not provide any identification on the person who was detained. Officials stressed that the person’s involvement, if any, will be determined by detectives as the investigation continues.
Drew Brown, an officer with IMPD, said on scene that the shooting reportedly stemmed from an argument between people who knew one another. A firearm was reportedly recovered from the area where the shooting occurred and it is beleived to be an isolated incident.
“It’s a beautiful Sunday that has been interrupted by violence,” Brown said. “While our homicide numbers are down… those are just not numbers on paper.”
Brown said that homicide detectives are in the early stages of the investigation into the fatal shooting. Brown encouraged anyone who saw or heard anything to contact the department or contact Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-8477.
