Dead body identified after found on American Airlines plane from Europe at CLT Airport, police say
Around 9 a.m. on Sunday, September 28, airport officials said they found someone hiding in the landing gear and was pronounced dead by officers.
The body was found while performing maintenance on an American Airlines plane that had recently arrived from Europe.
On Oct. 11, police identified the person as 25-year-old Jose Joaquin De Leon Santiz.
Santiz’s next of kin have been notified by the Guatemalan Consulate.
“We are working with law enforcement on its investigation,” American Airlines said. The FBI has now taken over the investigation. The case remains active and ongoing.
