ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Kids in Abilene got the chance to take to the skies this weekend through the annual Experimental Aircraft Association Young Eagles program. The event offers local children the opportunity to experience aviation up close, and for some, it may even inspire a future in flight.

Among those participating were Avery McClain and her father, Bryon McClain. A recent trip to Florida sparked Avery’s growing interest in airplanes, while her father has had a lifelong passion for aviation, having grown up around aircraft.

“I like to ride inside of them because you get to feel how it’s like to go in the air and all that,” Avery said. “And then, like, how to turn and all… You get to figure out what buttons are what and how to control the plane.”

The Young Eagles program is hosted once a year in Abilene. It provides free flights and basic aviation education for kids, with the goal of sparking curiosity and building confidence in the next generation of pilots.
