AIKEN, S.C. (WJBF) – Umoja means “unity” in Swahili, and one local organization is doing their part to bring the community together.

Donna and Donald Wesby are the founders of Umoja Village, which is a non-profit organization designed to bring like-minded individuals together by pulling together its resources to help with the needs of the community.

In order to help with those efforts, the Umoja Village will be hosting Unity Weekend which includes two major events.

The 3rd Annual Unity Golf Tournament will take place Friday, October 17th at the Cedar Creek Golf Club, 2555 Club Drive in Aiken, South Carolina. To play as an individual, the cost is $90, or to play as a team of four the cost is $360.

The contests that are included are Longest Drive, Closest to Pin, and Hole-N-One, which includes a $10,000 prize.

Check-in and registration begin at 8 A.M., but you can also register at umojavillage.com/golf, and if you do not want to participate in playing golf but you still want to contribute, donations are accepted.

Organizers state that the proceeds are to assist the Richard Johnson, Jr. Umoja Village Resource Center and Umoja Village’s Crime Prevention Initiatives.

Following the Golf Tournament, Umoja Village will also be presenting the ShoutFest UnityFest which organizers say is the largest, free outdoor Gospel festival in the CSRA.

ShoutFest UnityFest will take place Saturday, October 18th from 11 A.M. to 5 P.M. at the Beverly D. Clyburn Generations Park, 700 Mack Henry Holland Drive in Aiken, S.C.
