Sawyer County arson suspect arrested nearly 1 year after 6 fires were intentionally set

A suspect believed to have been tied to multiple reported arsons has been apprehended nearly a year after authorities began investigating.

The Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office announced 30-year-old Thomas L. Olson of Birchwood, WI was arrested in connection with multiple business and residential fires that occured in 2024.

As 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS previously reported, six fires in the Sawyer County area were suspected of having been intentionally lit in November of 2024.

Olson is facing multiple felony charges for arson and is currently in jail awaiting his bail hearing.

While Olson has been arrested, the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is still ongoing.
