The Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) said planters were removed from the Westfield High School in Chantilly after reports of spiders.
The school district’s pest management team responded to the high school in Chantilly several times since Oct. 3 to address the report.
In the statement, school officials noted that the spiders were discovered in an outside courtyard that was not used by students. It was believed that the spiders were coming from dirt that was located inside planters that were recently added to the courtyard.
School officials said the dirt is being removed from the planters.
The spiders were commonly found in Northern Virginia.
“The team will continue to monitor the situation and will apply additional remediation treatments, as necessary. There have been no reported sightings of spiders inside the school building,” said school officials.
