Money Minute: Getting kids into stocksMoney Minute: Getting kids into stocks
How do you get the kids in your life interested in their financial future?
The stock market is something nearly everyone can participate in, including kids.
Wealth manager Pete Eckerline says you can purchase individual stocks from some companies on behalf of your kids, like Disney, McDonald’s, Apple, Hasbro and Nike.
“You can buy a couple of shares right through the companies,” Eckerline says.
You can also use the big low-cost stock buying companies like Schwab and Fidelity; they have kid sections that custodians can use.
This can show kids how to watch the market and see their stock go up and down.
“You can buy two or three shares for a child as a gift,” adds Eckerline.
He says asking your kids about their interests can help guide you to the stocks to buy.
