Man dies after being crushed by tree he was cutting down in Wadena County

A man has died after a tree fell on top of him Thursday afternoon in Blueberry Township, according to a news release from the Wadena County Sheriff’s Office.

First responders were called to a report of a tree falling on a man at a rural home in Blueberry Township, which is about 40 miles east of Detroit Lakes.

Despite CPR and other lifesaving measures, the man was pronounced deceased.

Authorities say the man worked for a tree removal service and had climbed a tree to saw off the top portion. As he cut the tree, its base broke, causing the tree to tip over and fall on top of him.

The incident is still under investigation.
