Deputies responded to reports of shots fired shortly after 7 p.m. on Belle Plains Road. There, the caller reported hearing “yelling and multiple gunshots” from a home nearby.
According to deputies, a man was found outside the home, and when he refused to communicate with law enforcement and went back inside, a standoff ensued.
Deputies said the man was identified as Gregory Pitts, a convicted felon, and despite commands being made for him to leave the home, he instead closed his windows.
The SWAT Team assisted the SCSO by bringing a communication device into Pitts’ home to speak with him, which was successful.
Pitts surrendered without incident and was charged with reckless handling of a firearm, obstruction of justice and weapon possession by a convicted felon.
He was transported to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, where he is being held without bond.
