One day after the previous owners/operators made an announcement that Play Faire Park would close, Charlie Wolfe, the landlord over the property located at N 2nd Street, announced it would reopen.
Wolfe told KTAB and KRBC that he plans to assess the property for safety, make needed repairs, then reopen as soon as possible.
“We [want to] keep the charm of the park but make it safe and more enjoyable for people to come visit,” Wolfe said.
However, Wolfe says these repairs will have to wait until current tenants, previous owners/operators Chris and Melanie England, vacate the property.
He says that not only did they not make repairs that they were responsible for as outlined in their lease, they are now refusing to vacate the property, prompting him to take legal action and seek eviction.
The Englands are seeking legal action as well, and there are now multiple lawsuits and counterclaims that England and Wolfe have filed against each other as the future of Play Faire Park remained uncertain.
Despite the legal battles and uncertainty, Wolfe wants to assure the public that Play Faire Park is not permanently closing.
“The park was open for 40-something years before Doc ever thought about running the place, and it’ll still be open once he’s gone,” Wolfe said.
