Officials say this year’s theme is “Explore Indiana!” That can include aspects like the state’s history, landscapes and sports teams. The contest is open to all Hoosier fourth graders to help emphasize the Indiana history portion of their academic curriculum. Essays should be between 100 and 300 words and can be handwritten or typed. Entries must be emailed or postmarked by October 20.
Rep. O’Brien says three essays will be selected by a panel of judges representing the Indiana Statehouse, Indiana State Museum, Indiana State Library and Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center. Each winner will receive $529 for their Indiana529 education savings account and be invited to read their essay during Indiana’s 209th Statehood Day celebration on December 11.
Rep. O’Brien says, “I encourage all Hoosier fourth graders to participate in this contest and learn more about Indiana’s rich history.”
