Equipment use sparks 600-acre wildfire in Attala County
ATTALA COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Wildland Firefighters with the Mississippi Forestry Commission (MFC) were able to contain a wildfire in Attala County.
According to the MFC, the wildfire burned more than 600 private forested acres. They determined the cause of the fire to be equipment use.
“As dry conditions persist this fall, we urge everyone to be extremely cautious when operating any equipment near dry grass or vegetation,” MFC officials said. “It only takes one spark to start a devastating wildfire.”

Equipment Safety Tips
Avoid using power equipment (mowers, chainsaws, tractors) during the hottest and windiest parts of the day. Mornings are best.
Never park vehicles or equipment in dry grass—hot exhaust systems can easily start a fire. Park on dirt or paved areas instead.
Ensure all motorized equipment has a properly functioning spark arrester.
Always have fire suppression tools ready nearby (water source, shovel, fire extinguisher).
