CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WBOY) – Law enforcement across West Virginia will begin a high-visibility enforcement mobilization on Friday where they will be ticketing certain violations.

The West Virginia Governor’s Highway Safety Program is working with local law enforcement on the Click It or Ticket mobilization from Oct. 10 to Oct 31. During that time, officers will be out “in full force,” and drivers not wearing a seatbelt or with children who are not restrained correctly in a car seat will be ticketed.

According to a press release from the West Virginia Department of Transportation, historically, the Columbus Day weekend, which is from Oct. 10-13 in 2025, is one of the deadliest holiday weekends for fatal crashes.

“Too many people die on our roads because they were not buckled up or not buckled up correctly,” GHSP Division Manager Amy Boggs said in the release.

The release said that about 92% of West Virginians wear seatbelts, despite it being required by law. The goal of the Click It or Ticket mobilization is to further encourage drivers to follow the law.

“The $25 violators pay if ticketed pales in comparison to the lives of the people we love most,” the release said.
