As they pick up the pieces and recover, neighbors are finding reason to celebrate with a block party at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, outside Sir Philip Dr. between 900N and 800N.
David Durr, who lives in the neighborhood says, “A lot of people when this was happening and when it was flooding, they felt alone. They felt helpless. And we still kind of do. And so we thought, ‘Hey, let’s get everybody out and together. And knowing each other a little more.’ We see each other, wave, but we don’t know each other.”
Less than a week ago, the streets were covered by water. Since then, volunteers have made a lot of progress, but there is still more work to be done.
More rain is expected this weekend, leaving the neighborhood a bit uneasy. Durr says, “We’re worried. We don’t we haven’t heard from the city… They know about it… And I know everybody that’s had the huge issues, and the huge amount of water don’t want to start over.”
Less than 24 hours after the flooding, a fundraising committee was formed. They are collecting donations to help those affected.
