ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – The Dyess We Care Team has found a new solution for their Wishing Well donation box after removing it from the Abilene Public Library’s South Branch inside the Mall of Abilene.

The 2025 Abilene Chamber of Commerce “Non-Profit of the Year” winners, the Dyess We Care Team, is a community service organization that focuses on home repairs and other community projects for the elderly and disabled individuals in the Abilene area.

Recently, the nonprofit received some good news after being informed that it had to move one of its donation boxes due to the library relocation. After learning about the situation, the Mall of Abilene offered a kiosk space for the donation box free of charge. Program Director for the Dyess We Care Team, Gordon Storey, spoke to their relief in receiving this offer.

“When the mall management learned of our dilemma, they opened up their arms and said, ‘Yes, we will make room for it.’ Over the past few years, you’ve actually had to be in the library to even know it’s here. Well, now, you know, you can be perusing the mall, doing your workout, just general shopping, you see it. We’re just going to ask you, like, ‘Hey, please support it. Every quarter helps. Dime helps. Hey, you can fold a bill down there, too,'” Storey expressed.

Storey added that donations like these have an even greater impact than those made to typical outreach organizations, as everyone on the Dyess We Care Team is a volunteer. This means that 100% of donations go directly toward supplies for community service projects.

The new location for the wishing well donation box is along the interior walkway of the Mall of Abilene near El Chico. Click here to learn more about the Dyess We Care Team.
