Netflix’s Quicksilver: Callie Hart Gives Script Update, Says She’d Love Robert Eggers As Director, Wants “Something Dark and Twisted and Weird”

Hart, who also serves as Executive Producer on Quicksilver, confirmed there’s been movement on the film as they now have a script, and are looking for a director.

“We have a script and it’s a good one,” Hart said. “And we’re about to start thinking about who will be the director, which is a really fun stage to be at.”

When asked who her dream director would be, Hart said Robert Eggers or Guillermo del Toro. She said she wants “something dark and twisted and weird. I don’t want anything normal.”

However, Hart did elaborate and say the name and past projects of the director are not as big of a concern overall, “I just want someone who has a clear vision, and who is going to stay true to the story and is going to present it in a really, fricken cool way that isn’t going to be turned into a meme. That’s the requirements.”

Hart also teased the writer for Quicksilver, saying “You’ve definitely watched shows she’s written, and she is just phenomenal. She’s got a really great sense of humor that’s found it’s way into the script, too.”

Elizabeth Cantillon, known for Alien: Romulus, and The Love Hypothesis, is set to producer. Hart said she was drawn to her as the producer due to her ability to make really gritty, dark, and edgy stories. “I spoke with a lot of producers before I chose Elizabeth, and she was the one – our vision was so aligned on it. How she wanted to represent the story, I was like, she’s the only woman for this job.”

Quicksilver sold over 1 million books within six months of it’s publishing in December 2024, with popularity continuing to pick up on BookTok across multiple social media platforms. It’s the first book in the Fae & Alchemy trilogy, with the second book, Brimstone, releasing on November 18, 2025.

Quicksilver is a fantasy story with dark romance that follows Saeris, a young woman who’s skilled with a sword and thievery, to a magical realm with fae warriors. She ends up meeting Kingfisher, a dark and broody fae warrior – the last person who she would like to spend any time with – and becomes caught in the middle of a prolonged war between the fae and an enemy in the realm.

The fantasy romance book genre picked up huge popularity over the past few years, to the point where studios have scooped up the film rights for adaptations across the genre.

Amazon has the rights to Fourth Wing for a TV series, which just found it’s new showrunner, Sony is developing a Blood and Ash TV series, Hulu had the rights to the series that is known for kicking all of this off – A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas – but reportedly dropped it. Sources told Variety that Maas will be shopping it elsewhere, and after seeing a coffee date between Maas and Margot Robbie, fans have been speculating that it would be scooped up by her production company, LuckyChap Entertainment. Robbie, who is a huge fan of Maas books, told Bazaar that she would “see what she can do” about making an adaptation happen.
