Lafayette woman accused of stabbing boyfriend in his sleep, charged with attempted murder
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — A Lafayette woman was arrested after allegedly stabbing her boyfriend in his sleep, authorities said.
Lataviea O’Neil, 21, of Lafayette, is charged with attempted second degree murder.
Officers were dispatched at approximately 12:45 a.m. Wednesday to the 200 block of Ile Des Cannes Road in response to a complaint of a stabbing in progress. The alleged victim reported that while he was sleeping, he woke up to find his girlfriend of three years standing over him with a kitchen knife.
The suspect thrust the knife downward toward the victim’s neck, authorities said. The victim said he managed to grab the blade of the knife, redirecting the thrust and narrowly avoid injury. He then fled to the bathroom, locked the door and contacted 911.
