ISP: 1 killed, 1 injured in Carroll County crash

CARROLL COUNTY, Ind. — An investigation is underway after a person was killed and another was injured in a crash in Carroll County on Thursday.

Deputies with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a fatal crash on State Road 25 near U.S. 421 shortly before 12 p.m.

Indiana State Police said preliminary information indicates that a 2008 Nissan Rogue was traveling southbound on State Road 25 before it came to a stop in the left lane. Around the same time, a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse was reportedly traveling southbound in the area. ISP said the Chevrolet attempted to avoid colliding with the Nissan before ultimately striking its rear.

The Chevrolet then rolled over before coming to a stop in the median. ISP confirmed the individual driving the Chevrolet Traverse was pronounced dead on the scene. The deceased individual’s name will be released at a later time by the Carroll County Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the Nissan also sustained “minor” injuries, ISP said.

The Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana Department of Natural Resources and Indiana Department of Transportation also assisted at the scene.
