Bloomington, Ind. — October 6, 2025 — Indiana University Recreational Sports will host the 25th annual Jill Behrman 5K Walk/Run on Saturday, November 1, marking a quarter-century of honoring the memory of the late IU student and Bloomington native.
What began in 2000 as a student-led effort to remember Behrman has grown into one of IU’s most cherished community events — a celebration of life, resilience, and determination. Behrman, an avid cyclist and athlete, disappeared while on a solo bike ride near Bloomington that year. Her memory has since inspired thousands of participants to come together in support of personal strength, community spirit, and safety awareness.
This year’s event, themed “25 Times More Fun,” will once again feature IU’s only color run, with participants passing through five color zones on campus while being showered in bursts of color. The day’s festivities will also include live entertainment, music, dance parties, free food, and giveaways.
“Jill would’ve loved this,” said her mother, Marilyn Behrman. “She was really determined. She set goals for herself. She found joy in biking, volleyball, and being active.”
The Jill Behrman 5K is organized by Indiana University Recreational Sports with the help of student volunteers, local sponsors, and community partners. The event continues to serve as both a tribute to Jill’s life and a symbol of the strength that emerged from tragedy.
