At an Oct. 1 meeting in Mansura, the board reviewed 15 cases and awarded a total of $6,100 to tipsters whose information resulted in 34 subjects apprehended and 134 citations issued. The violations involved a range of wildlife crimes, including illegal hunting of deer and turkeys, taking migratory game birds, alligator and small game violations, and commercial fishing offenses.
LOGT, created in 1984, is a crime-stopper program dedicated to protecting Louisiana’s natural resources. The organization works alongside the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ Enforcement Division and relies on tips from the public to investigate and stop illegal hunting, fishing and other wildlife violations.
Citizens can report suspected violations confidentially and anonymously by calling the Operation Game Thief 24-hour hotline at 1-800-442-2511. Tipsters whose information leads to an arrest or citation could receive a reward of up to $1,000.
