DALLAS (KDAF) — Everyone has that one brand they wish would open closer to home, whether it’s a cult-favorite fast food chain, a beloved grocery store, or a gym franchise they’ve only seen on TV.

MarketBeat, a leading financial media company, carried out a survey of 3,011 respondents asking: “Which brand do you most wish your state had – but currently doesn’t?”

In top spot, Texans most want to see a Wegmans in the Lone Star State. Despite Texas having powerhouse H-E-B, Wegmans still comes up among Northeastern transplants. Its sprawling prepared-food counters and cult bakery items make it a supermarket experience Texans haven’t had.

The second most desired brand is a Salt & Straw. Salt & Straw is the ice cream shop where creativity meets comfort, with flavors like Olive Oil and Sea Salt or Chocolate Gooey Brownie that spark conversation as much as they satisfy a craving. Despite its national buzz, Texas doesn’t have a single scoop shop. Imagine Salt & Straw in Austin’s food scene, pairing with local breweries or live music nights — it would be more than ice cream, it would be an experience Texans would instantly claim as their own.

This was followed by the desire to bring a Von Maur to Texas. Von Maur is a Midwest gem that Texans haven’t experienced. The department store has earned loyalty with free gift wrapping, interest-free credit, and piano players serenading shoppers in its carpeted aisles. Texans who’ve seen it in Illinois or Iowa often describe Von Maur as a throwback in the best sense — polished, service-driven, and community-oriented. Its absence in Texas malls makes it one of those chains locals say they’d be curious to try.
