Rougarou Festival coming to Houma for spooky season

HOUMA, La. (WGNO) — With Halloween only a few weeks away, Houma’s annual Rougarou Festival is returning and will have many spooky festivities for all to enjoy.

From Friday, Oct. 17 through Sunday, Oct. 19, the free festival will celebrate the rich, eclectic Cajun and Bayou culture ingrained in southeast Louisiana, according to festival organizers. There will be various activities over the weekend such as live music, food, folklore and a costume parade.

The Rougarou Festival began in 2012 and is named after the legendary Cajun werewolf, according to festival organizers. With its mythical origins, the intention behind the festival was to revive traditions and bring awareness to the wetlands. The proceeds from the event go to South Louisiana Wetlands Discovery Center.
