A public visitation for Gary and Holly Schmit will be held on Thursday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Sycamore.
A GoFundMe for the family has raised nearly $80,000.
According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to perform a welfare check at a residence in the 1300 block of Oakland Drive around 8:40 a.m. on September 30th.
There, police found Gary Schmidt, 60, and Holly Schmidt, 59, dead within. Police said they had been killed by apparent blunt force trauma.
Investigators discovered a vehicle was missing from the residence, which was later located in the Rockford area by a license plate reader.
Deputies with the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office located the car and conducted a traffic stop, and detained Kevin Schmidt, 35.
He has been charged with four counts of first degree murder.
