Man killed in crash involving construction truck on Morgan, Rowan County line

MOREHEAD, Ky. (FOX 56) — Troopers with Kentucky State Police are investigating after a man from West Liberty was killed in a Tuesday afternoon crash.

According to state police, troopers responded to reports of the two-vehicle crash just before noon on Tuesday, Oct. 7, on KY-519.

An initial investigation showed that Donnie Smith, 68, of West Liberty, was driving a Buick Rainier heading south on the highway when he allegedly crossed the center line, hitting “several construction barrels” before he crashed head-on into a parked construction truck with Anthony Thomas, 57, of Owingsville, inside.

Smith was reportedly taken to St. Claire Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead by Rowan County Deputy Coroner Derek Lewis. Thomas wasn’t hurt.
