According to the Fairfax County Police Department, on Oct. 4, around 7:50 p.m., officers responded to the 7200 block of Fordson Road in Groveton to investigate a sexual assault.
The woman told the police that she was in a room when a man entered. That’s when the suspect struck her in the head and tried to sexually assault her, police said.
Police added that the woman was able to escape, and the man took off running.
During the investigation, officers were in the Groveton area when they noticed the suspect, identified as 46-year-old Oscar Barrios, at a store.
Barrios was taken into custody and charged with abduction with intent to defile, attempted rape, statutory burglary and petit larceny.
He is being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
