How to make ABC4 your preferred news source on Google
The search giant recently launched “preferred sources,” a tool that lets you choose which outlets you want to see in the “Top stories” section.
You can do it two ways. First, click here, and a new tab will pop up to select your “preferred sources”. Search for ABC4, check the box and that’s it!
Another way is by setting it up while you search for news or any story of the day. When you Google a topic, a ‘Top Story’ icon should pop up, similar to the one below. For relevant news queries, these sources show up more often in “Top stories” and “From your sources.”
In Top stories, you can select your preferred sources. Next to the “Top stories” header, click the Cards Star icon
You can then search for ‘ABC4’, check the box and you are all set!
Once you’ve built your list, articles from those outlets will start appearing more prominently when they publish content related to your search.
Yes. Setting preferred sources doesn’t block out everything else — you’ll still see articles from other sites, and you can update your list whenever you like. “Top stories” features articles related to the search and a link to more related articles on the News tab.
When you search for a topic that’s in the news, Google algorithms organize specific stories and articles based on certain factors. These results are not personalized, but you can refine your search terms to find additional information.
According to Google, when you personalize search results, the algorithms tailor the search for you based on your activity. Personalization doesn’t affect all search results.
ABC4 has been in the market for over 75 years as a trusted news source, playing a crucial role in informing the public and maintaining its commitment to journalistic integrity.
ABC4 is the first privately owned commercial television station in the United States, officially signing on the air April 19, 1948, at 8 p.m. as KDYL-TV, after first starting television demonstrations at the Paris Department Store in Salt Lake City in 1939 using portions of the exhibit used by RCA TV in the 1939 World’s Fair.
