Homicide victim who died in downtown Portland assault identified

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A homicide victim who died after a downtown Portland assault this past weekend was identified by authorities.

On Wednesday, the Portland Police Bureau announced that Portland resident Alan S. Hammond, 64, died and that his family was notified of his death.

Hammond was found seriously injured after police responded to a Southwest Portland hospital for a reported medical call at about 9 p.m. Sunday. It was determined that the victim had been injured during an assault one hour earlier, in the 300 block of Southwest 4th Avenue. Hammond was pronounced dead a couple of hours after police arrived, despite lifesaving measures by hospital staff.
