Last night, just before 8 p.m., Louisiana State Police began investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash involving a bicycle on U.S.190 near La. 35. Officials said the crash claimed the life of Dallas Pitre, 68, of Opelousas.
Officials said Pitre was traveling west in the eastbound lane of U.S. 190 while riding a bicycle. At the same time, a vehicle was traveling east on U.S. 190. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle struck the bicycle.
Authorities said Pitre died at the scene from his injuries while he driver of the vehicle was not injured.
The driver of the vehicle was not suspected of being impaired and voluntarily provided a breath sample, which showed no alcohol detected.
This crash remains under investigation.
