During the Seattle Mariners’ 8-4 win over Detroit in Game 3 of the ALDS, Cal Raleigh slammed his 61st home run of the year straight towards the crowd and into the hands of one lucky man.
That fan was Jameson Turner, a Washington native who now lives in Las Vegas. He was wearing a homemade shirt that read “DUMP 61 HERE.” And Raleigh did just that in the top of the 9th.
Turner couldn’t find any available seats in the section he wanted to sit in and reluctantly moved to the left-center field bleachers.. That turned out to be the perfect spot as the homer bounced off the Mariners’ bullpen and up into the hands of Turner.
“I made the shirt last week for the regular season finals in Seattle,” Turner told the Seattle Times’ Adam Jude. “I decided to fly out here and give it another shot and it’s just unbelievable. I’m still in shock. The bullpen was loving it.”
As soon as he grabbed the ball, Turner had a change of clothes ready — a shirt underneath that read, “DUMP 62 HERE.” Luckily, the Longview, Wash. native got to keep the ball but was also quickly taken by Mariners baseball communications to meet Raleigh postgame, who gave him an autographed bat.
